About Me
I am mechanical engineer to the core.
My experience in the mechanical world started after graduation
from high school (1973, Indian River High School, Chesapeake,
Virginia). I wanted a job that offered skills I could carry
anywhere I went (thanks for all the encouragement dad, miss
you) and accordingly began an apprenticeship at Newport News
Shipbuilding and Dry Dock as an apprentice pipefitter. Not to
blow my own horn but I was pretty good at this and my last year
was spent in the Design Section in Building 600. I spent 7 years
in the yard and finally got tired of the long drive to and from
work. I then found a job with the Public Works Center, Naval
Station, Norfolk in the Central Power Plant, Building P-1. A
power plant is a pipefitters dream and I was happy during the
4 years I worked there. During this time I realized I wanted
more from life than being a pipefitter, so I began taking engineering
classes at Old Dominion University. After 2 years of night classes
I left my pipefitters job and took on numerous part time jobs
to pay for full time classes. 3 years later I graduated (yes,
it took 5 years). My first job was with a local consulting firm
doing Department of Defense work and learning the ropes. My
skills increased and I actually began to understand what it
mean to be a consulting engineer. Several firms later I took
a position as mechanical department head and assisted in growing
the firm from a hand full of young engineers to a successful
firm now with 50 plus employees. I left that firm for the opportunity
to start my
own firm .
I am a licensed professional engineer
in the states of Virginia and North Carolina. I tend to enjoy
the more intricate systems associated with hospitals and medical
facilities but also enjoy interacting with "experienced"
architects, mechanical contractors and building owners.

I am married to the most wonderful woman

spend as much time as possible in Buxton, North Carolina where
we have a trailer close in proximity to the beach. Life to me,
is a beach. Enough said. |
